SUNY AFS 219: Introduction to African/African-American History (African Diaspora)
This is a full-year, college credit-bearing course offered by SUNY Albany's University in the High School program that surveys the cultural and historical background of African Americans from their arrival in the United States to their present role in American society by focusing on the movements and culture of Africans and their descendants to places around the world.
*NCAA-approved course.
SUNY A ENG 106: Introduction to Hip-Hop Studies
This is a full-year college course offered by SUNY Albany's University in the High School program that explores the various artistic, historical, and socio-political developments in Hip-Hop culture since its birthdate. As a result of taking this course, students will understand Hip-Hop as an extension and expression of Black and Latinx intellectual traditions, political philosophies, and aesthetic forms.
E12: Introduction to Hip-Hop Studies
This is a full-year English elective course that focuses on all facets of Hip-Hop, from its history to its impact on fashion to its impact on American politics. Furthermore, as a result of taking this course, students will better understand Hip-Hop as an extension and expression of Afro-Caribbean culture.
Writing/Literacy Lab, Grade 9
This is a full-year, .5 credit-bearing course designed to provide academic intervention services and instructional support for 9th grade students who are in need of additional support in literacy based on Grade 8 ELA scores.
