Dear Peekskill students and families,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. My name is Nina Reed and I am currently teaching ENL (English as a New Language) at PHS. I understand that this year has had incredible challenges and tragedies that we have endured as a community and as a nation. Moving forward, although this year will not look like the others, I hope to provide support, encouragement, and comfort to all Peekskill families during these challenging times. 

With this being said, it is my main priority to support the social-emotional needs of the whole child, and continue to build strong relationships with students. 

Although this school year may look different, and every family's situation is unique, it is still my responsibility to consider each student as an individual and to provide guidance as well as reseach-based and standard-aligned instruction.

If your student has been identified as an ELL (English language learner) by NYS, he/she is entitled to additional academic services for language acquisition with the use of the core content areas. I look forward to continuing to build strong relationships with students and parents in order to prepare students for academic success. I hope to encourage students to view their multilingualism as an asset. This year I will be providing serivce to grades11 and 12 for stand-alone ENL services, as well as English 11 in an integrated co-teaching setting with Mrs. Jennifer Telesco. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me (nreed@peekskillschools.org). 

Grading Policy (PHS English Dept.): 

Coursework: 60%

Assessments: 40%
*Students understand the criteria within each component of the grading policy and the expectations that need to be met to earn a certain grade. If you have any questions, please feel free to inquire.
