Project: With this project you will be working on an aerobics/dance project. You will be creating a line dance or a segment of an aerobics routine. Choose one of the following assignments:
#1: Line dance-You need to create a line dance, of your own. You may take steps from other dances and combine them into your own dance, but the dance has to be a new dance created from your minds.
These are the requirements for the dance project:
- Create a name for your dance: the more creative, the better
- Create a dance that can be continuously danced for an entire song
- Put your dance to music; determine a specific song that the dance accompanies (I will need to approve the song before you present this to the class)
- Present your dance in front of the class to your desired selection of music
- Then, break the dance down into parts and teach the class your dance
- Finally, create a fictitious origin for the dance-this must be at least two written pages in length. In this paper, I want you to discuss where the dance came from, who invented it and how they invented it, and any changes it has undergone.
To turn in:
- 2-page written fictitious explanation of the dance's origin (very specific and creative)
- Paper listing the name of the dance, the group members. The actual dance written down (steps and counts), and each person's specific contribution to the project
The following is the grading scale for this project:
- Steps of the Line Dance - 10 points
- Presentation to class - 10 points
- Participation of group members - 10 points
- Teaching the Dance to the class- 10 points
- Paper explaining the dance - 10 points
#2 Aerobics Segment: This will be a 10-minute segment of an aerobics routine. You may do a 10-minute warm-up, a 10-minute cool-down, a cardio-workout, a circuit training workout, a strength workout, or an isolated workout for a specific body part (such as the abdominal muscles, the legs, the arms, the hips and butt, etc.). If you are not doing a warm-up or cool-down, you must begin the segment with a brief warm-up and end with a brief cool-down.
Requirements for aerobics segment:
- Must create your own 10 minute segment of a routine
- Each member must adequately participate in the project
- You must provide your own music for this routine (I must approve this before presentation)
- Create a name for your workout as if you would have your own video
- Presentation - You must explain the focus of your routine. You must also present the segment to the class. You, as a group, will walk around to make sure everyone is doing the routine correctly. Remember to tell the class tips for not injuring themselves. Examples of these safety precautions would be: "Make sure to relax your neck and use your abdominal muscles to pull yourself up" (crunches). " Make sure your toes are in front of your knees when squatting." "Be sure to breathe out at the hardest part of exertion."
Paper to turn in:
- Name of routine (video) - 1 point
- Names of all members in the group - 1 point
- Specific duties of each member - 2 points
- Name of music accompanying the routine - 2 points
- Focus of the routine (what does it work on?) - 3 points
- Specific muscles that it works - 7 points
- Actual written version of the routine - 10 points
- Safety precautions necessary for the routine - 2 points
- Type of stretches necessary (ballistic, static, PNF) - 2 points
Grading Scale:

Project: Create your own board game: (to be turned in)
You will make a board game based on a sport you are interested in. You will need to make the questions, game board, cards, and playing pieces.
Requirements: All of your questions must be based on the theme of your game.
Very Important: When designing your game board, be sure to have a variety of spaces such as regular spaces, pick a card spaces, move ahead/move back/lose a turn spaces. Also, have a start space and finish space.
Board Game Rules: (these are the rules for your game)
- Up to 4 players may play at a time.
- Place the game pieces on the start space.
- The youngest player goes first, next youngest second, etc.
- The first player rolls a die and moves his/her game piece the correct number of spaces.
- If the game piece lands on a "Pick a Card" space, then you must pick a Question Card. If the player answers correctly, they move ahead 2 spaces. If they answer incorrectly, they move back 2 spaces. Place the used cards at the bottom of the pile.
- If the game piece lands on a blank space, then the next player goes. If the game piece lands on a Consequence space, the player must choose a Consequence Card and do what it says. (consequence cards must be like, go back to start, move back 10 spaces, etc.)
- To win, a player must get the "finish" space on the exact roll. IF they do not roll the correct number, they must stay on their correct space and wait for their next turn.
All game boards must be colored and neatly done on a large piece of white poster board.
