Ms. Hoskins

ENL (Entering - Expanding Levels)/Newcomer Civics

This is my twelth year teaching ENL full-time in the Peekskill City School District. It's a job I love because I have always been interested in different languages and cultures and how people bring them to the United States and make our country stronger and more interesting. I was born in New Jersey but my English husband was born in Germany and my teenage daughter was born in China, so they were newcomers once, too.

Before I started teaching in Peekskill, I had many other jobs, including teaching English in Japan and writing for companies such as Morgan Stanley in New York and London as well as Harvard University in Cambridge and McGraw Hill in New York. I also worked as a community journalist for the Gannett newspapers here in Westchester County. I began teaching in the Peekskill City School District in 2009, starting part-time in an afterschool program here at the middle school, then working in each of the elementary schools before settling at PKMS, where I have been for the last eight years.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling with my family as well as spoiling our two cats, walking and cycling in nature, swimming, gentle skiing, theater, going to the beach and meeting with my book club and my writers' group.
