• Welcome to 8th Grade ELA!

My name is Ms. Viola and I am the English Language Arts teacher on Team 8 South! I have had the pleasure of teaching here at PKMS for over 20 years. I was born and raised in NYC and started my career in the Bronx, NY.  After graduating from Fordham University with my Bachelor's Degree (English), I gained my Master's Degree from Lehman College (Literacy/Secondary Ed.). As always, I am excited to start another fantastic year!

This year, our 8th grade students will have the opportunity to read the works of  famous literary authors, enjoy  great works of literature,  research expository text, and enjoy personal memoirs. Students will respond to their reading in a variety of ways, such as writing short responses and essays, creating projects and participating in class discussion. Of course, independent reading is  an important part of our class. Homework is often based on independent reading  and reading responses will be assigned weekly.  Book projects are assigned each quarter.

I encourage students to attend Check and Connect/Callback for extra help, time for reading and homework, to make up assignments, etc. This time is available from 2:36-3:00 PM

I look forward to meeting our 8 South families throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at LViola@peekskillschools.org
