Hello, Mathematicians! Welcome to middle school! I have been teaching 6th grade math at Peekskill Middle School since 2013. I received two degrees from Suny New Paltz; a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master's in Special Education. I strongly believe that the quality of what I teach is more important than the quantity. To some degree, we use math every day in life and therefore need to know it well to use it. I truly enjoy teaching, especially Algebra, and I love working with students! I feel very blessed to be a teacher and to be working with the students here at Peekskill Middle School. I adore math and I am certain that you will feel the same way! It's something you will use every day of your life, no matter what path you take. A strong background in mathematics can unlock unlimited opportunities in your future! In sixth grade mathematics you will (1) use concepts of ratio and rate to solve real-world problems; (2) understand division of fractions and extend your knowledge of rational numbers (including negative numbers); (3) write, interpret, and use expressions and equations; analyze and develop formulas for area, volume, & surface area; & (5) develop an understanding of statistical thinking. The best part about sixth grade is the exposure to the 7th grade curriculum towards the end of the school year! :)MATH 6 HONORS - This course encompasses all of the 6th Grade Next Generation Standards in addition to the first half of the 7th Grade Next Generation Standards. Students will build on the foundational skills of ratios and proportional relationships, the number system, expressions and equations, geometry, and statistics and probability, as outlined in the 7th Grade state standards. The coursework and topics covered are for those students who are advanced in math by at least a full year.
