Your kindergartener needs to know words 1-25 by June.
If your child already knows these words, great! Get a head start on first grade by reviewing ALL 100 Fry words. All 100 Fry words need to be mastered by the end of 1st grade!
Did you know that Fry words 1-100 make up about half of all reading material? Think of how fast and accurately your child will be able to read when he/she knows the sight words. Then your child can spend more time decoding/sounding out unfamiliar words.
Practice makes perfect.
Ideas for sight words:
Make 2 copies of each word (or print out 2 copies). Play "Memory" by having your child flip over 2 cards that are faced down. If they get a match great! They get to keep those 2 cards, read them out loud for extra practice. If they are not a match, just name the cards, remember where you found them and try again. The player with the most matches at the end of the game wins!
OR Using 2 sets of FRY word cards you can play "Go Fish". Each player takes 5 cards from the deck and asks another player if he/she has a specific word in their set of cards. If they do, they must hand it over and the player who asked for the card has a match! The player with the most matches wins!
OR Just practice the old fashioned way. Print out the cards and start with 5 at a time. Once 5 are mastered, add 5 more until you know them all!
