2020 Census Information Meeting Set for March 26 at PKMS

Please join the City of Peekskill, the Field Library, Peekskill City Schools and other community partners for an informational presentation regarding the upcoming 2020 Census by a Census Partnership Specialist. The event will be Thursday, March 26th from 7-9PM at the Peekskill Middle School. The meeting will cover an overview of the 2020 Census and why it's important to Peekskill residents, response confidentiality, and conclude with a Question & Answer session.

Woodside Gardens Help Students Learn About Butterfly Life Cycles

The milkweed plants that were introduced in the Woodside garden are the sole host plant for Monarch butterfly caterpillars. Woodside teacher Ms. Melina Cronin recently gathered a few caterpillars from the milkweeds and hosted them in her classroom where her students were able to observe as each caterpillar became a chrysalis over an eight day period. Beautiful monarch butterflies eventually emerged from the chrysalist! The butterflies were released to the students' delight and will return to the garden in the spring in a return migration. This experience presents the life cycle in a way that our kindergarten and first grade students truly understand.

Our friends at The Field Library are once again showcasing the work of our Woodside artists! Presently on display are oil pastel flowers by Ms. Eliazer's class and painted collages in the style of Eric Carle by Mrs. Quijada's first grade class.

BOCES Brings "Birds & Raptors" Presentation to Woodside

On Monday, February 11, the PNW BOCES Center for Environmental Education Programs came to visit Woodside students and they brought along some very special guests. Student were treated to a "Birds & Raptors" presentation and had the opportunity to see real birds of prey up close. The children were engaged by the lesson and excited to meet these beautiful creatures.

Kindergarten Concierge Welcomes Peekskill Students Back to School

Thanks to some creative ideas from the school’s new principal, Mrs. Rebecca Aviles-Rodriguez, and a collaborative effort between the District, the United Way of Westchester and Putnam, and Costco, Woodside’s students and their caregivers had the opportunity to visit a “Kindergarten Concierge” and “First Grade Front Desk.” These tented areas were set up outside the main entrance of the building and created a space for parents to drop off supplies, have their questions answered and discuss any concerns regarding the first day of school.
