Ms. Del Monaco's Daily Message

  • Friday, April 3, 2020

Happy Friday, everyone!  We have completed another week of distance learning.  Awesome job!  I miss seeing all your faces. I can't wait until we are back in our reading room together.

Today you should be on day 12 in your distance learning packet.  In reading, you'll be thinking about characters.  Characters are important to a story.  Characters "drive" the story.  They make you think and feel emotions when reading.  Characters   Meet some new characters on Epic Books.  Click on this link- Epic Books to take you to the website.  Then:

    1.  Choose LOG IN

    2.  Choose STUDENTS & EDUCATORS

    3.  Enter my class code: lew3010 - then press Go!  Find your name, just like on Raz-Kids and enjoy!

If you are not in my class, send me an email at adelmonaco@peekskillschools.org and I will add you to my class.

Have a safe and wonderful weekend!

    Hi Readers,

I hope you all had fun playing some April Fools' Day pranks.  I can't begin to tell you how many times my own kids pranked me at home.  Their favorite was pretending that someone was behind me.  Hilarious!  I am so happy that you are ALL on Raz-Kids.  Be sure to check your messages when you login.

Today, you should be on day 11 of your distance learning packet.  If you're behind, no worries.  We are all doing the best we can.  If you want a break from the packet or Raz-Kids, I found a great free resource.  It's called Epic Books.  It has a variety of books from Fancy Nancy books to books about Sea Otters.  Some books are read to you and some books you read on your own.

Have a great day, my lovely friends!

    Happy April Fools' Day!

    Books    Hi Readers,

Books are amazing! Books can take you on adventures without ever leaving your home.  As you read, you can use your mind to make a movie in your mind about what you are reading.  I miss hearing you read to me, and I miss reading stories to you.  I miss talking about our books with you all.  Today, after you read try to pick a reading activity from this Reading Menu.  Continue logging into Raz-Kids and Zearn.  Keep up the awesome work you are doing with your distance learning packets.  I can't wait to see you all!  As always, feel free to drop me a line at adelmonaco@peekskillschools.org.

    You all rock!

    Hi Readers,

I hope you all enjoyed a short break from your distance learning packet and enjoyed the nice weather on Friday.  Today is a bit gloomy, but the weather seems calmer.  As the old saying goes, "March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.", so I am looking forward to sunnier days.

Today, you should be on Day 9 in your distance learning packet.  Before you begin your class work, don't forget to say our Self-Affirming Pledge (click on link).  Please continue reading on Raz-Kids.  I'm giving out lots of stars!  Also, click on this link for some Science fun!  Science 21 Learning

    Hi Readers,

Today is DAY FOUR of our Virtial Spirit Week.  Other than doing your distance learning packet, how else are you staying busy?  Are you getting outdoors?  One way that I am staying busy is by checking in on your Raz-Kids pages.  I love that you are all reading!  Below is a schedule that I am trying to follow with my kids, but it's hard sometimes.  My kids are not as good at listening as you all are.  They do LOVE gonoodle.com when it is time for a break.

As always, please email me at adelmonaco@peekskillschools.org with any questions.

    Hi Readers,

Today is DAY THREE of our Virtual Spirit Week and we are looking for artists!  Share your latest picture or song.  Draw your favorite part of the story or your favorite character.  Did you like the story's ending?  Try to draw a picture of another way the story could end.  Are you reading non-fiction?  Draw about the information you learned.  Label your picture with facts from the story.

On Monday, I told you about Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems.  Now is your time to "showcase" your art.  Send an email with your picture to PR@Peekskillschools.org.  Here is a picture of my lunch doodle with Mo.doodle

As always, email me at adelmonaco@peekskillschools.org with any questions or concerns.

Be well, and I miss you all!

    Hi Readers,

    Virtual Spirit Week

Welcome readers to week two of distance learning.  We are having a virtual "Spirit Week".  How fun.  Please participate!

I miss seeing you all at Woodside and I miss my classroom.  Today, after you complete your "sharp" activities, take a sketch break with Author and Illustrator Mo Willems.  You know him, he is the author of some of your favorite books like all the Pigeon books (my favorite Don't let the Pigeon take a Bath!) and the Elephant and Piggie collection.

Mo Willems invites YOU into his studio every day for his lunch doodle. You'll be sketching with other children worldwide!  You can draw, doodle and explore new ways of writing by visiting Mo’s studio virtually.  If you post your art to media, be sure to hashtag it with #MoLunchDoodles

    Hi Readers!

In both Fundations and Learning Dynamics we've been learning about vowel sounds.  Vowels are letters that have two sounds- a short sound and a long sound (which is the vowel's name).  Click on the link below to sing our letter songs and our long vowel song.  Once you've clicked the link and are on the page, scroll down and you can get the words to the songs.

    Enjoy!  I miss you all!

     Hi Readers!

I miss you all.  I hope you like the activities we collected for you to keep your mind sharp!

Today as you read, I want you to think about parts of a story (for fiction) or interesting facts (for non-fiction).

    Fiction:

    1.  Who was the main character?

    2.  Where did the story take place?

    3.  Was there a problem? If so, what was the problem and how was the problem solved?

    4.  Did the story make you think about something insteresting in your life or another book?

    Non-Fiction:

    1.  Name three interesting facts.  Explain why those facts are interesting.

Don't forget to check out the links!
