Branwen MacDonaldBranwen has lived in Peekskill with her family for 15 years, and she is the proud parent of a third grader and sixth grader in the Peekskill Schools. She began her involvement with the school district when her oldest child was a toddler, volunteering on the Citizens’ School Budget Committee. She is a founding member of Peekskill Community for Schools, a group dedicated to strengthening our schools through statewide and local advocacy. She is honored to serve as trustee on the Peekskill School Board. In that role, she has advocated with state elected leaders for increased and more equitable funding for our district. With the board governance team, she has focused on whole child education, including an emphasis on recess, outdoor time, and inquiry-based learning along with a data-driven approach to programming. She joined the community core planning team in defining our district’s mission: To educate and empower all students to strive for excellence as life-long learners who embrace diversity and are contributing members of a global society.

We have done all of these while remaining fiscally prudent and staying under the New State Tax Cap every year. Thank you to the residents of Peekskill for giving me the opportunity to do this very rewarding work.

Eileen M. SullivanWhen I moved to Peekskill in 2001 my two youngest were just beginning kindergarten and first grade in the Peekskill City School District, and I was completing my education with the assistance of some of the educators in the very same district. I substituted in the middle and high schools and completed my student teaching in the high school. During my graduate studies I interned with the principal of Woodside and the District Superintendent at the time. My boys graduated from Peekskill HS and are attending college. I went on to teach English and students with special needs at the middle and high school levels in the Bronx and Warwick, NY where I also co-taught and was a special education case manager. My last teaching position was as an adjunct professor of English at WCC.
Since teaching, my focus has been on community. I have been, and am, involved in many ways. I founded a nonprofit and as a certified peer advocate led a support group. A certified artist, I have performed and collaborated with local artists, Embark, the PAA, and other endeavors and organizations; I try not to miss an open mic! As a member of the PNAACP I have brought civics education to, and supported the quest for equitable funding for, our district and am a member of the Climate and Environmental Justice Committee. For the City I am on the Human Relations Commission and an active citizen participant in City government. I hold a BS in English and Students with Special Needs grades 7-12 and graduated Summa cum Laude with a Master’s in Educational Administration from Fordham University. I am currently employed as the Program Coordinator for Arts 10566, Inc.
