Superintendent of Schools“Be present for your future!”
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Peekskill City School District recognizes that one of the most critical building blocks for student success is great attendance. Our yearly goal is 95% of students at satisfactory attendance (no more than 9 total absences for the year).
Attendance and being on time have a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in Pre-Kindergarten and continuing through high school. The Attendance Matters Campaign is in place to bring attention to this important matter. We need your help! Families play a key role in making sure students get to school on time, every day. We need you to make your child's attendance a priority all school year long.
We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health or other circumstances. We also know that when students miss too much school it can cause them to fall behind academically. Absences, tardies and early pickups add up throughout the year. If a student is absent 10 days each year from Pre- Kindergarten through graduation, he or she will miss 140 days of school—or over 75% of an entire school year.
If your family or student faces a unique challenge that may cause frequent absences, please contact your school principal and/or social worker. My team looks forward to working with you and our schools on improving attendance in the coming months, and we wish you a successful and enriching school year.
