• What is the Smart Scholars Program?

    The Smart Scholars program is tailored for students who are eager to fast-track their education. By participating in this four-year program, students can earn between 24 to 60 college credits through dual enrollment at Westchester Community College. Smart Scholars is an accelerated pathway that empowers students to advance their academic careers early, setting a foundation for future success in higher education.

    What are the Smart Scholars Career Pathways?
    Through partnerships with local business partners, students will gain hands-on experience, job shadowing and internship opportunities.

    • Performing Arts 
    • Computer Science is a dynamic and expansive field that involves the study and development of software and systems, enabling professionals to innovate and solve complex problems across various industries.
    • Computer Information Technology offers students the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in IT fundamentals.
    • Cybersecurity is designed to offer students knowledge and understanding in protecting digital systems and data from cyber threats.

    Who is a Successful Early College Student?

    • Our ideal candidates are students who are:
    • Motivated by personal and academic success.
    • Excited by challenges and enjoy problem-solving and project-based learning.
    • Demonstrating readiness for advanced coursework in STEM or Performing Arts.
    • Committed to actively participating in additional learning opportunities, including a Summer bridge program.
    • Welcomes the opportunity for a two-week long summer bridge program, some after-school and weekend commitment to learning and hands-on-activities.
    • Has a strong desire to graduate with an Associates degree (P-Tech) or earn 24 or more college credits (Smart Scholars).

    What is the Selection Process and When Do I Find Out?

    The Early College Committee will conduct a selection process upon receipt of all applications and after applicant interviews have been concluded. Selected students are required to attend the Summer Bridge program. Students who meet the requirements but who are not selected will be placed on a waiting list. Should a slot become available before the start of the school year, it will be offered to a student from the waitlist.

    How to Apply

    Application Requirements:

    • Current 8th-grade students passing all classes.
    • Complete the detailed application form and provide all necessary documentation. Access the Early College application here: Early College Student Application (https://forms.gle/rLtH5uRDLH5hQCaW7).
    • Obtain a recommendation from a Math or Science teacher for STEM pathways or a Performing Arts teacher for Arts pathways.
    • Participate in a student/guardian interview and attend an informational session.

    Application Timeline

    Application Deadline: May 17
    Interviews: May 20-May 31
    Acceptance Notification: June 2024
