Welcome to our class page! My name is Marlix Hernandez, and I am teaching 5th-grade One-Way Dual Language this year here at Hillcrest. I was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Washington Heights and The Bronx. This is currently my 8th year teaching, the fifth year in the Peekskill City School District.

As for my education, I received a B.A. in Sociology and Bilingual Childhood Education from Lehman College in 2013. I went on to pursue a Master's Degree in Special Education from Lehman (2015) and a second Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction: Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Concordia University (2016). I obtained my last degree this past Spring of 2020 in Educational Leadership at Long Island University.

I am very passionate about teaching and learning while I help my students (and my three sons) become bilingual, bicultural and bi-literate.

¡Bienvenido a nuestra página de clase! Mi nombre es Marlix Hernández, y este año estoy enseñando lenguaje dual un camino-dos idiomas aquí en Hillcrest. Nací en la República Dominicana y crecí en Washington Heights y en el Bronx. Este es actualmente mi octavo año siendo educadora, el quinto año en el distrito escolar de Peekskill.

En cuanto a mi educación, recibí un B.A. en Sociología y Educación Infantil Bilingüe de Lehman College en el 2013. Continué con una Maestría en Educación Especial de Lehman (2015) y una segunda Maestría en Currículo e Instrucción: Enseñando inglés a hablantes de otras lenguas de la Universidad de Concordia (2016). Esta pasada primavera del 2020 obtuve mi ultimo título en Liderazgo Educativo de la Universidad de Long Island.

Me apasiona mucho enseñar y aprender, mientras ayudo a mis estudiantes (y mis tres hijos) a ser bilingües y biculturales.
