  • Mobile Food Pantry at Hillcrest Elementary

    The Mobile Food Pantry is coming to Hillcrest! Food items will be available for pick up on the following 2019 dates: August 15, September 12, October 10, November 14, December 12. Pick up will be held from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. unless otherwise announced. We encourage our families to take advantage of this free resource. To help our efforts, we will also need volunteers to help set up, distribute food and clean up. If you are able to lend a hand, please contact abuenodeleon@peekskillschools.org.

  • Author Caroline Moss Visits Hillcrest Elementary

    Hillcrest Elementary students enjoyed an author visit with Caroline Moss this week. Ms. Moss writes the, "Work it Girl" series, which are biographies about strong women. Currently, she has published books about JK Rowling and Oprah Winfrey, and in the future, she will be publishing books about Michelle Obama, Mae Jamison, Vera Wang and Beyonce Knowles. Ms. Moss spoke about becoming a writer and told students about how they too could become writers. She also shared about her favorite authors from when she was a fifth grader. As part of our Grade 5 curriculum, students are learning about biographies, so the children were especially interested in this visit.

  • Bird Feeder Project Helps to Teach Hillcrest Students About Recycling

    Hillcrest students in Ms. Rice’s class recently made bird feeders while studying food chains. This activity also taught students important lessons about recycling and reusing materials to help our environment.

  • Hillcrest Students Create Bird Houses for Peekskill Seniors

    Hillcrest students in Mrs. Lauren Batista’s class recently completed multiple bird houses, which they crafted to give to residents at the Peekskill Senior Center (PSC). The students had fun working in groups to create the houses. The process involved drilling, sawing, and painting to complete the projects. Students also had the opportunity to reinforce their science lessons, and learn about important safety procedures as well. Click on the headline to read more on this story!
