    About General Music at Oakside
Oakside students enjoy singing, playing classroom instruments, moving to music, reading, improvising and composing music in age-appropriate ways. Grade 2 students explore music using singing, classroom instruments, movement and dramatizations.  Grade 3 students continue the process, and in January, all Grade 3 students learn to play the recorder as the medium to expand their knowledge of music literacy and skill in playing a musical instrument.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OAKSIDE STUDENTS ON THEIR FABULOUS WINTER CONCERTS!

    January
Oakside Gr 3 students will begin to learn to read music by learning to play the recorder.  Grade 2 students will be learning about lines and spaces on the staff and will learn to read and sing so, mi, and la on the staff

    November and December
Oakside students are working hard to learn their songs for the Oakside Winter Concert.  Students will be singing, moving, and some will be playing instruments.

    October
Oakside students are learning and reviewing rhythmic and melodic patterns.  They are singing songs in Spanish for Hispanic Heritage Month and are learning about Mariachi, Folklorico, and some important Hispanic musicians. Later in October, Grade 2 students will be dramatizing stories using classroom instruments and Gr 3 students will be learning how to use dynamics to make music more expressive.

    September
Oakside students are off to a great start this year!
We are currently learning American Patriotic Songs.
