Why do we love our local library? Because they’re “out of this world!” Thanks to The Field Library for supporting our Oakside readers by creating a display for the school’s reading program and distributing “rocket response” forms for our students to fill out.
Oakside kicked off their 2018-2019 theme, “Reading Takes You Out of This World,” back in September. (Read more about that here.)Since then, Oakside students have been working on their collective goal to read 10,000 books by June. For each book a child reads, the entry is recorded on a rocket response form to be submitted to their teachers and counted towards the school’s goal.
This isn’t the first time the Field has partnered with the school district to help support reading initiatives. Every summer, the library also participates in the NY State themed reading challenge and curates carts of books for children organized by grade level.
The library welcomes more schools to follow in Oakside’s footsteps by sharing their own reading initiatives and response forms.
“It is great to have this partnership between our public schools and libraries promoting children's literacy,” said Peekskill parent, Victoria Kravitz.
