Please join the Peekskill City School District in welcoming Ms. Cynthia Hawthorne as our next Assistant Superintendent for Business. Ms. Hawthorne was appointed at the April 5 Board of Education meeting and will assume her new role on July 1, 2022, upon the retirement of PCSD’s current Assistant Superintendent for Business, Ms. Robin Zimmerman.

Ms. Cynthia Hawthorne was raised by her father, who came to the United States from Jamaica to further his education. He spent the more significant portion of his life dedicated to education and service as a teacher in the New Jersey Public School System, his daughter's path has now continued his legacy. In a home full of love, and as the youngest of four children, Ms. Hawthorne and her brothers understood the importance of education, perseverance, and community. Notably, his life examples instilled in them the importance of leveraging resources and collaborating on care initiatives to benefit the community. In her career in education, Ms. Hawthorne is committed to similar pursuits. She hopes to provide the students of Peekskill with the resources and opportunities they require and that they deserve.

Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Ms. Hawthorne is a proud alumna of the New York City Public school system. She received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Lehman College. After leaving Lehman, she worked at AT&T for several years and raised her four children with her husband. Later in life, Ms. Hawthorne returned to SUNY New Paltz to complete a Master's degree in Business Administration in 2011 and her Certificate of Advanced Studies in School District Business Leadership in 2013.

She then moved on to work for Bedford Central School District, where she has served for almost three years.

Ms. Hawthorne is the mother of four beautiful children, of whom she is incredibly proud. She and her husband raised their children in the Bronx and later moved to Dutchess County, where her career in education began. While Ms. Hawthorne comes from humble beginnings and has not always had it easy, she has done her best to give her children the opportunities that she did not have. She continues to advocate for children inside and outside of her community. Notwithstanding, Ms. Hawthorne wishes to help provide the best opportunities, encouragement, and experiences for all children, as she has tried to do for her own and was fortunate to receive from her father.
