I am thrilled to be teaching at Woodside Elementary School.

I will be teaching all of the kindergarten and first-grade classes.

My teaching consists of a mixed approach consisting of singing together with movement and instrument playing.

Some of the things your child will be learning this year will also include reading and notating music, listening to, analyzing and describing music, understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts, understanding music in relation to history, culture, and literacy.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions at my email address: amoffett@peekskillschools.org

MARCH 2020 DISTANTS LEARNING MUSIC ASSIGNMENTS:

Wednesday, March 25:  Goodmorning, I would like to share a happy thought with you today:
    "POSITIVE MINDS
    POSITIVE VIBES
    POSITIVE LIFE"

Sending you all wishes of good health. I miss seeing you in the classroom.

Please continue to practice the fun music assigniment below.
Thursday, March 25-Friday March 26:  "Happiness Never Goes Out Of Style" :
Make up a poem, story or a song about things that make you happy.

Tuesday March 24-Wednesday March 25: The weather is beautiful!
Go outside and do some vocal exerscises.
Here is a good vocal exercise to try today:
Stand up and jog in place or move around. Breath in deeply and watch your abdomen and rib cage expand.
Now try speaking the alphabet while doing your jogging and singing on just one breath.
Repeat the exercise and see if you can repeat the alphabet more than once or twice, maybe even three times on one breath while jogging.
    Have fun!

Monday, March 23:  Goodmorning Parents/ Guardians and students,
First let me say how much I miss my students.  Please stay well and be safe.  I am looking forward to getting back to the classroom ASAP. In the meantime,  spend time with your loved ones.  I have created some daily activities for your child to continue practicing and learning music concepts, be creative composers, be an acitive musician.
Also, be sure to check out my homework page for additional daily assignments.

Please see below some music websights to engage in while continuing to learn music activities.

Here is another fun assignmnet:  Take out some of the pots and pans in your kitchen.  use spoons as the drum mallets.  Create a percussion music piece playing on the different size pans.  Depending on the size of the pot, you will hear different musical pitches.  As an added bonus, keep practicing your rhythm symbols.  (ta-quarter note, ti-ti-paired eighth notes, quarter rest -silent beat)  First graders, can you write down your rhythmic piece on paper then try playing your musical piece on the pots and pans.  Invite your family to listen to your performance.
Have fun, stay well. Hope to see you all again ASAP.
